We promote the use of free open source CMS for one simple reason and that is " continuity". If you use a bespoke purpose made design you may be tied to your web developer. If you use an open source system you can get almost any web designer to maintain your website for you or even do it yourself, its not that difficult to learn.

I guess the other attraction for using open source is the fact that its free to use. The only drawback with open source systems is that everybody can see the source code, this includes hackers as well. If an open source system is used it must keep up to date with the latest update patches. If possible get your web developer to provide some additional security to your website.

Some of the popular cms systems like Joomla have excellent support and produce regular updates. Joomla also has a huge membership and a decent forum to get help with your system. There are many plug-ins, components and modules that can added to your system to give extended functionality.
