It's always a good idea to maintain a current version of an anti-virus software as part of the PC maintenance program. Systems can be configured to automatically perform virus definition updates and perform full system virus scans weekly. Anti-virus software can be configured to scan in-coming and out-going emails, the most common method of virus transfer.

We use AVG FREE anti-Virus or Avast Antivirus  protection on all our Customers PCs after which the Customer can choose a paid version if they want to.

FREE Spyware and Malware Protection

There are a few FREE anti-Spyware programs out there and all are decent enough to compliments a PC maintenance tool kit. We use SuperAntiSpyware as its FREE and really good.

FREE Registry, files and other systems

We use CCleaner as its yet another FREE PC maintenance utility tool. It cleans up a Windows PC and it protects privacy online and can make your computer run a little faster and make it more secure and it's very easy to use.

FREE Firewall Protection

A good Firewall keeps personal data in and hackers out. A firewall may make your PC invisible on the Internet so that hackers can’t find it. A good firewall has intelligent intrusion prevention technology which blocks suspicious Internet traffic. Windows Xp and later provides its own Firewall program. If you want to use another Firewall you MUST disable/turn off the Windows Firewall as two Firewall programs will not run together.

We have used ZoneAlarm  (download link for ZoneAlarm) in the past and found this FREE Firewall solution to be very effective. It has been updated recently and now offers even more protection than it used to and is said to be much better than the Windows standard Firewall.
