Occasionally a problem may occur where Windows 7 files and icons will not disappear from the screen when deleted after a right click to deleted. This may be due to a Registry fault which could occur if you are using a registry cleaner or other some such software. It doesn't really matter how it occurred, at the moment we are only interested in how to fix it right!
Restore Files and Folder settings
This has worked for me on many Windows 7 installations I have done. To check that the error is true follow this process and then apply the fix.
Test Steps 123
- Create a file or a shortcut icon on your desktop. The quickest way to this is right click on the screen and select New, then select Text Document).
- Right click on the new file and select delete.
- If the file does disappear until the F5 key is pressed then the error is real.
How to fix
We are now going to reset all files and folder settings back to factory defaults.
- First click start (bottom left corner of screen), select Documents. Then click Organize and select Folder and search option.

- After you open the 'Folder and Search option', find ALL of the Restore buttons and click on ALL of them. This will set all the folder and file icon options back the factory defaults. The files or config settings that have been corrupted should now all be reset.
- Now go back to Test Steps 123 to check that it has worked!
- After this you can set up your favourite options again. This should rebuild the configuration files again.
- If the 'Reset Folder' button is dark and clickable, click that one as well just to be sure...

Notes
- This fix will not damage your computer, it simply uses the Windows designed user interface and system settings.
- Registry settings ~ If you find any other potential solutions that suggest editing your Registry, DO NOT DO IT unless your know what you doing. If your registry gets damaged your entire computer may stop working altogether and you will then need an expensive expert to sort it out for you.
Your Windows 7 operating system should now be able to automatically refresh the screen from file and folder deletions.
