Using Open Source Content Management System (CMS) Solutions

Using a Content Management System is one the best ways to start with a website as all the formatting and infrastructure are already setup for you. You need no extra expensive web building tools and you need no specific in depth knowledge of the common web building HTML language.

With a Content management System you pretty much just type in your content and away you go. There is however, a steep learning curve to climb if you have never used a CMS before. You have to know how to administer your website in order to manage its content effectively.

To increase your website traffic you need to be 'seen' and indexed properly by the search engines. To achieve this you will need to apply some SEO to your website. Search Engine Optimization is a process that you apply to your website in order to make the website easier for the search engines to index. If your website is indexed effectively your web pages will appear on or close to the first search engine results page. However, where your website appears is often dependant on how much competition there is for your keywords, so you need to choose your keywords and keyword phrases carefully.

The way your website structure and navigation is setup is also important for SEO. Certain links and other key information needs to be placed in right area of the web page to be seen clearly by the search engine spiders. This includes meta data that lives out of sight of the casual visitor but is read by almost all of the search engines.
