Internet Explorer 7 short review
Internet Explorer 7 short review E-mail

I have been using Internet Explorer 7 for a couple of weeks now and I am so disappointed with it. Its caused nothing but trouble since the day I installed it.

Absolute rubbish, when it looked so good when first started

I updated my Internet Explorer recently thinking I would get a better browser that would be on a par with some of the others like Firefox and Opera. How wrong I was. After updating I opened the internet and at first glance the first thing I noticed was a tabbed browser, great I thought this is one of best features from Firefox. However I am having other problems which can only be related to the explorer update. Now I can't go back to IE6. So far I've had Browser hijacking problems, damned Security Certificate popup problems, which has also contaminated my Firefox browser.

Good Points: IE 7 includes built-in tabbed browsing; anti-phishing technology; an RSS reader; and a redesigned Favourites Centre. This is all well good but it can take forever to load a page because it now checks all the contents before it opens it. Didn't need this before because I have anti-spyware and ant-virus running?

Bad Points: IE 7 is limited to Windows XP SP2 users only; installation requires reboot; reuses old IE 6 code and doesn't yet comply with current Web standards; doesn't match all the features found in Firefox or Opera; carries a Microsoft legacy of not patching its IE flaws quickly enough.

My recommendation: Keep well clear of IE 7. Use Firefox or Opera instead.

IE 7 was Microsoft's chance to get ahead of the competition, but Microsoft have fallen well short of the mark. For more features and greater security, switch to Mozilla Firefox version 2.0. Firefox is far faster than IE7 any day of the week, well done Mozilla!
